Let’s take a moment to discuss the competition. Why is this important? Because every salesperson eventually needs to recognize that others are offering similar products and services. Often, the differences between what you provide and what competitors offer can be minimal.
Clients might also explore alternative solutions to their challenges. They could choose to leverage internal resources or decide to allocate their budget elsewhere, opting to do nothing about their current issue.
It’s essential to learn about your competitors and consider the various alternatives available to your clients. However, once you’ve done your research, shift your focus back to your client and the unique strengths of your own products and services. Concentrating on what you bring to the table will help you stand out in a competitive market.
In sales circles, we often talk about our USP: our Unique Selling Point. (This is sometimes also referred to as the Unique Selling Position.) If we can differentiate our products and services from everybody else’s by knowing what is unique and special about ours, we already have an advantage over many people who are in sales today.
