About Course

Today, there are five generations actively working side by side. Not long ago, employers anticipated a wave of mass retirements. Now, many workers, either unable to retire due to financial reasons or simply content with their careers, continue to contribute to the workforce. As a result, organizations are focusing on strategies to recruit the right talent to fill vacancies and effectively serve their customers.
This course delves into the history and current state of the generational gap, particularly in relation to recruitment and succession planning. We will examine whether defining the boundaries of each generation is crucial, or if the emphasis should be on the individual merits and contributions of employees within the workplace.
Ultimately, understanding the diverse perspectives of different generations can enhance our self-awareness and improve our ability to manage our colleagues effectively. We will also discuss common challenges, potential solutions, and strategies to bridge the generational divide in the workplace.

HISTORY IN BRIEF
In this session, students will learn about the origins of the generation gap, explore the unique and shared characteristics of different generations, and understand how generational influences shape work and life. They will also examine how media and business often exaggerate generational differences, when in reality, generations have more in common than expected. The course covers the five main generational categories, challenges stereotypes, and explores shifts in workplace dynamics, such as flatter hierarchies and diverse leadership. Finally, students will participate in activities to discover commonalities and appreciate individual uniqueness within their groups.

FINDING COMMON GROUND
In this session, students will learn how to find common ground across generations, recognizing that despite differences in upbringing and life experiences, all generations share fundamental desires like meaningful work and respect. They will explore the impact of stereotyping and meta-stereotyping on workplace dynamics and how these can hinder collaboration and innovation. The session will also cover the importance of building authentic teams, which go beyond team-building activities and foster genuine collaboration and respect across generations, ensuring that every member's input is valued equally.

SILENTS, BOOMERS, X’ERS, MILLENNIALS, AND GEN Z
In this session, students will learn about the distinct characteristics of different generations, including the Silent Generation, Baby Boomers, Generation X, Millennials, and Generation Z. They will explore the cultural influences that shaped each generation and how these factors impact attitudes toward work, technology, family, and societal issues. The session will also emphasize the importance of using common language when discussing generational differences while acknowledging that perspectives may vary. Students will gain insights into how generational contexts affect workplace dynamics and cross-generational communication.

RECRUITING THAT BRIDGES THE GAP
In this session, students will learn about recruiting as an adventure, focusing on what potential employees across generations seek in a workplace. The course will cover how to creatively attract and retain both Baby Boomers and younger workers, addressing recruitment, retention, and engagement. Students will explore the evolving needs of employees regarding benefits, noting that while Baby Boomers prioritize health coverage and wellness, Millennials prefer lifestyle perks like gym memberships and financial planning. The session will emphasize the importance of flexible benefit plans that appeal to different life stages and generations.
