What is a Team?

A team can be defined as “a group of individuals with a high level of interdependence focused on achieving a shared goal or completing a task.” This definition emphasizes that team members collaborate to reach their objective. While some groups may have a common goal, they do not necessarily work together effectively. For instance, a collection of individuals working independently towards the same target may be more of a group than a true team.

What Does That Mean?

This means that members of a team agree on a goal and agree that the only way to achieve that goal is to work together. Some groups have a common goal but they do not work together to achieve it. For example, many teams are really groups because they work independently to achieve their goal. Some groups work together but they do not have a common goal.
