Course Content

DEFINING CONFLICT
Conflict is a normal and inevitable part of the workplace, arising from differing values, goals, and perspectives among individuals. While often viewed negatively, conflict can facilitate growth and improvement when effectively managed through problem-solving strategies, allowing for new possibilities and better understanding. This session will explore the nature of conflict, its positive and negative aspects, and the importance of developing procedures to constructively address conflicts for beneficial outcomes.

TYPES AND STAGES OF CONFLICT
In this session, we will explore various types of conflict, including inner conflict, interpersonal conflict, and group conflict. We will also examine the stages individuals experience during conflict, which help to illustrate how conflict can escalate.

SELF-AWARENESS
In this session, we will review the pre-assignment and engage in a case study to explore the concept of self-disclosure. Additionally, we will complete a conflict resolution questionnaire to examine each participant's unique conflict resolution styles.

HOW TO GET ALONG WITH CO-WORKERS
In this session, we will explore strategies to enhance your relationships with colleagues and potentially minimize conflict. As mentioned earlier, it’s important to recognize that completely avoiding conflict is not feasible; however, making an effort to reduce the likelihood of it occurring is always beneficial.

THE ROLE OF COMMUNICATION IN CONFLICT RESOLUTION
In this session, we will examine effective communication and identify barriers that hinder open and clear dialogue. We will also discuss the importance of establishing positive intent to help mitigate some of the negativity often associated with conflict.

COMMUNICATION SKILLS
In this session, we will explore communication skills that can enhance the flow of positive information, help prevent conflict, and also assist in resolving any conflicts that may arise.

CONFLICT OUTCOMES
In this session, we will explore three different outcomes of conflict and the conflict management styles that achieve those outcomes — avoid, accommodate, compete, compromise, and collaborate — which we learned about in Session Four.

CONFLICT RESOLUTION
Gaining confidence in our conflict management skills leads to improved productivity and performance. In this session, we will explore the conflict/opportunity test and a structured process for conflict resolution.

CONFLICT RESOLUTION QUIZ
The quiz on conflict resolution assesses participants' understanding of key concepts and strategies for effectively managing conflicts in various settings. It covers topics such as identifying the sources of conflict, distinguishing between constructive and destructive responses, and applying problem-solving techniques to achieve win-win outcomes. By testing knowledge and skills related to conflict management, the quiz aims to enhance participants' ability to navigate conflicts and foster positive relationships.
